Keeping the baby
Having a baby is a major life-changing event and, as such, may mean that
much of your current lifestyle will change.
- You may need to give up work or study temporarily. Financial matters
may then become an immediate concern.
- You may feel that your relationships with your partner, family or
friends are jeopardized. For some women, how, when or if to tell others
may be the biggest hurdle.
- You may have concerns about the physical and emotional changes, which
occur during pregnancy, and have questions about the health care you
will need.
- You may wish to seek information about the birth and find out how
best to prepare for having a baby.
- You may be overwhelmed by the responsibility of bringing up a child,
particularly if you are a single parent.
At PCL, our counsellors will encourage you to talk about your situation
and explore the option of keeping your baby. Continued counselling and
support is also available throughout your pregnancy and after your baby
is born.

If you believe that you cannot bring up a child, but you want to allow
your pregnancy to continue, adoption may
be an option for you.
